A Major Weekend for Players Wearing Softspikes

Brentwood, Tenn. –

Sunday saw a clean sweep of wins across golf’s main tours by players wearing spikes, including a first-time Major winner at The U.S. Women’s Open and back-to-back wins for the World No.1 at The Memorial Tournament.

Heading into the final round in the lead at The U.S. Women’s Open, the 25-year-old Swede put on a commanding display of golf on Sunday, with Silver Tornado her spike of choice to tackle the undulating fairways of the testing Erin Hills layout. A round of even par, 72 proved enough to secure a 2-shot victory and put her alongside the greats of women’s golf in Sweden.

The Memorial Tournament isn’t a walk in the park either, it is as tough a test as it gets on The PGA Tour. And, that’s why an overwhelming 88% of the field chose to wear spikes in their pursuit of the title, including the World No.1, who secured back-to-back titles at Jack’s place, wearing his trusted Tour Flex Pro spikes.

Since The PLAYERS Championship in mid-March, the World No.1 has been on a remarkable run of form, amassing 3 wins in just 7 events, including the PGA Championship, and not once finishing outside the top 8. The final leaderboard at Muirfield Village Golf Club featured 27 of the top 30 finishers wearing spikes over a spikeless alternative. The World No.1’s victory means that 23 of the last 25 PGA Tour winners have done so wearing spikes in their golf shoes.

Elsewhere in the world of professional golf, the winner of The Alpine Austrian Open on The DP World Tour was wearing Pulsar spikes in his FootJoy Premiere Series golf shoes en-route to securing his first tour title. The winner of the Korn Ferry Tour’s UNC Health Championship Presented by Stitch Golf was wearing Pulsar spikes and the PGA Tour Champion’s Principal Charity Classic winner wore Metal spikes.

“If ever a Sunday showed the clear performance benefits of wearing spikes, it was yesterday. To witness a first-time winner at The U.S. Women’s Open and the men’s World No.1 at the peak of his powers, both trusting spikes, is the best validation you can get for your products.” commented Joe Henderson, President, Softspikes.

Tour players change grips and traction regularly based on course conditions, but amateur golfers rarely think about the impact wearing spikes has on consistency and distance. To achieve optimal performance benefits, golfers should be switching up their spikes every 15 rounds.
